Mon Repos Beach near Bundaberg is a large turtle rookery. Watch nesting turtles from November to February while turtle hatchlings crack their shells and head into the sea from January to March. Fraser Coast, with its sub-tropical climate, can be enjoyed all year round. In summer, temperatures reach a maximum average of 30°C, offering extremely hot days with cooling sea breezes. Winter, the driest season of the year, has a maximum average of 22°C. The coldest month is July with a maximum average of about 15°C and the warmest one is January with 30°C.

Hervey Bay has a good local bus service that circulates town from the main bus station at the Bay Central shopping centre on Boat Harbour Drive. Buses also go to the surrounding towns.
