The Manuel Antonio beach is an absolutely beautiful piece os nature where you can see monkeys, toucans, racoons and sloths on the seafront edges of the national park. Biesanz beach is tucked away not far from Manuel Antonio village. Not overrun by tourists, with locals offering drinks, kayaks, longe chairs, restroom and some snacks. The trail down to the beach is a bit rocky, so consider wearing stable shoes and not flip-flops. The beach has a quiet surf, perfect for swimming and relaxing. If you're lucky, you'll see sloths up in the trees!

Puerto Escondido Beach is located inside a cozy and tranquil cove in the Manuel Antonio National Park. The 650 meters long cove offers a spectacular landscape, thanks to the biodiversity of the flora and fauna, both terrestrial and marine, that live here. You'll see plenty of animals peaking out of the lush forest.

The stunning Playa Espadilla is located on the grounds of the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront and Rainforest Resort, and is characterised by its natural rock protecting the warm tide pools and its tropical shore birds. A jungle surrounds Arenas Del Mar and touches the sand, offering natural shade. The beach is 2 km long and connects to the National Park.

Palo Seco is a very tranquil, unpopulated, sandy and palm fringed beach that extend for as far as the eye can see. Most people congregate close to their hotels and it's not difficult to find a section of the beach all to yourself. This beach is not perfect for swimming because of the rough surf, but is perfect for surfing and long walks.

El Rey beach is the most secluded and least known on our list. Playa Rey is well known for being a perfect spot for surfers — the breaks are super clean and the coast is seemingly infinite. Best reached by car via road 235, and then the 34 direction Dominical, and then a short stretch down a dirt road. You'll see plenty of animals in this less travelled part of the Manuel Antonio National Park. When you're close to the Naranjo river, watch out for crocodiles!

Amigos del Rio offers intense and exhilarating tours that cover over seven miles of challenging river rafting, going through some of the most beautiful stretches of the jungle. Their tours are kid-friendly and include meals. As an alternative they also offer more tranquil ocean and mangrove kayaking.

Encounter dolphins, giant sea turtles and whales while sailing to the offshore islets. Snorkelling and spectacular views of the sunset will wrap up a perfect day on the water.

Exotic and rich in their decadent flavours, Costa Rican chocolate and coffee are worth exploring. The chocolate part of the tour starts with the cultural and biological background of cocoa and goes on to teach you about the collecting, fermenting, grinding and finally the making of chocolate. Coffee aficionados will be delighted to learn about the economic and cultural importance of this most important crop. Although you can't stay inside the national park itself, the village of Manuel Antonio has an excellent range of accommodations — from affordable hostels for backpackers and long-term travellers to luxury hotels. Be prepared to pay a bit more proximity to nature and the beaches. Staying here might be a better option if you are not into the busy vibe of central Quepos.

Parque Nahomi is the go-to place for enjoying the sunset. This small park on Quepos southern edge offers incredible views of the sea and is easily reached on foot from the centre. There are a few cliff jumping spots, too. There isn't a big beach here, but it's a convenient place to launch kayaks or to snorkel. The tranquil, low key environment makes it popular with locals.

Marina Pez Vela — or The New Marina, as some refer to it is in Quepos — hosts some of worlds best fishing tournaments. If you're not into fishing, you can still enjoy great shops, restaurants and beautiful boats. The marina is a calm and safe place to just sit down, gawk at the views and wander around.

There's nothing like crossing some of the highest hanging bridges in the country and then enjoying a refreshing dip in a 36 m (120 ft) waterfall hidden deep within the primary rainforest. Apart from the abundance of natural life, some tours offer cultural and culinary experiences. If you're not into organised tourism, Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the best natural spots in Costa Rica to explore by yourself. Ronny's Place is a restaurant that offers unmatched views of not one, but two pristine bays, as well as the lush jungle all around. The menu features delicacies like coconut breaded shrimp, whole red snapper or a seafood platter for two with lobster, tuna, mahi-mahi and calamari with garlic sauce. Browse their long cocktail list for the perfect pairing. Ronny's is a bit off the beaten track, which makes it less crowded and well worth a visit.

The Claro Qué Sí seafood, grill & wine Bar offers elegant dining from its location at Hotel Sí Como No and features a terrace overlooking the tropical forest and the Pacific coastline. Supermarkets rarely make it to the top of anyone's travel destinations. Yet having one right around the corner from your hotel is a real blessing. Quepos La Managua Airport is located approximately 5 km (3.1 miles) from Quepos. It services Nature Air and Sansa airlines, with flights to and from Palmar Sur, Puerto Jiménez, and San José. Taxis line up outside the terminal. The taxi ride from the airport into Quepos takes approximately 20 minutes. Most local hotels also provide free airport shuttle services to their guests.

The closest international airport is called Tobías Bolaños International Airport and is situated about 130-140km from Quepos, basically next to San José. Aerobell, CarmonAir and Taxiaereo offer daily charter services from this airport.

Even thought it's not the closest airport to Quepos, you are most likely going to enter Costa Rica via the Juan Santamaría International (SJO) airport is located about 17 km northwest of the San Josécity centre. Right outside the entrance, you will find local shuttle buses that take you downtown. The journey from the airport to the capital is usually inexpensive. If you prefer taxis, make sure to get a licensed "Taxi Aeropuerto". One journey is about 25 minutes and costs about 25 US$. The most common bus you’ll see is the big red TUASA bus. The final stop of this bus is close to La Merced park. You can book a private or shared transport from the airport to Quepos or Manuel Antonio. From San José city, you can take one of th Tracopa buses (2221-4214) thar run throughout the day. Try to take a directo (“direct”) bus rather than a colectivo (“collective”) bus, which makes multiple stops and is two hours longer. The directo bus is about 3.5 hours.

Citizens of the European Union as well as Australia, New Zealand, North America, and most countries in South America do not require a visa to visit Costa Rica. Visitors with a valid, multiple-entry visa or residence permit issued by any country of the European Union, Canada or the United States can also visit without a visa, for a stay of 30 days maximum. Requirements for other visitors depend on their nationality, and are best checked with your local consulate.

Costa Rica offers warm weather all year round with an average annual temperature of about 29 C (85 F) on the coasts and 26 C (80 F) in the countryside and in the mountains. While the air temperature is always pleasant, one thing to keep in mind is the amount of rain. Mid-December to April is the dry season and is also the highest tourist season — the cold weather in the Northern Hemisphere and the promise of daily sunshine lead vacationers to the beaches of Costa Rica. The rest of the year you are likely to have some totally overcast days and daily showers that cool down the air. This less touristy period will be easier on your wallet and you are less likely to get a sunburn. Don't forget to apply sun cream regardless!

Quepos is one hour behind Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone. It is six hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT–6). Daylight Saving Time is not observed in Costa Rica.

There are two types of public buses, direct and 'collective'. The direct bus goes straight from Quepos to Manuel Antonio and the 'collective' stops along the way for pick up/drop off. Usually it leaves every 30 minutes, but after 5 or 6 pm it is once an hour.

Taxi service is readily available in Quepos. While all taxis have meters, negotiate the taxi fare before entering the taxi. In Quepos, you can find a ride at the taxi stand south of the market. Uber operates in the Puntarenas Province, though there aren't very many cars operating there.
