Watch the finest craftsmen tinkering wtith rings at the Claddagh Gold shop. Since 1750, this shop has produced the Original Claddagh Ring, which consists of two hands holding a crowned heart. It is said in the 6th century St. Patrick (Ireland's patron saint) undertook a 40 day Lenten pilgrimage of penance here. (It is also the mountain from which he allegedly chased the snakes out of Ireland!) For this reason the mountain is the site of many pilgrimages, as well as "Reek Day", a ceremonial day in July. Ideal for hiking, one can enjoy stunning views of Clew Bay, and borrow climbing sticks from the Visitor Centre if needed. The mountain is 5 minutes from the town of Westport and also a day-trip possibility for those based in Galway.

Often called "Galway's hidden museum", this unique centre is located in the south-east wing of the "Quadrangle" - the iconic central feature of NUI Galway's Hogwarts-esque campus. If you intend to rent a car, make sure to familiarise with the Irish road rules.
