Quay climbing Centre

The Quay Climbing Centre is the South West’s largest indoor climbing wall. The centre makes use of the huge atrium space built into one of Exeter’s largest and iconic industrial buildings – formerly the city’s electricity works. Rougemont Castle / Exeter Castle

Cockington Village and Cockington Court

Many villages lay claim to being ‘picturesque’, but the village of Cockington is the real deal. Take a walk back in time along Cockington’s narrow lanes, lined with thatched houses and you’ll experience a quiet charm that is quintessentially English. Everything about Cockington oozes with history – there’s a water mill, a forge and even the cricket pitch was once a medieval deer park. It seems like a little, cute and human Hobbiton! At the heart of the village is Cockington Court, a manor house with roots in medieval times, surrounded by hundreds of acres of gorgeous country park. Burgh Island

Burgh Island, situated directly opposite Bigbury on Sea, is steeped in history and legend, being a one-time haunt of pirates and smugglers, and a hideaway for the rich and famous. Burgh Island is connected to the mainland by a lovely sandy beach. This beach is covered daily at high tide. Visitors can still reach the Burgh Island shore by way of a ride on the famous “beach tractor”.

Slapton Sands

These are two halves of a 3 mile sand and shingle bar stretching between Strete in the north and Torcross in the south. At the Torcross end, the bar divides the sea from Slapton Ley - a freshwater lake and Nature Reserve. All of this area of coast is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The beaches are close to the villages of Slapton and Torcross with pubs, cafes, and small shops on hand. Watersports equipment can be hired locally.

Quayside Area

The Quayside has been enhanced to provide a fascinating mix of historic and contemporary design. Best Time to Visit

Much like the rest of the United Kingdom, Exeter does often get bouts of rainfall, but these are normally not too disruptive to tourists' visits. The best time to plan your trip for is the summer, June through August, when the weather is at its warmest and most pleasant. On the contrary, the months of December through February are known to be some of the rainiest.


Exeter Airport is located at Clyst Honiton in the District of East Devon, five miles from Exeter city centre and five minutes from the M5 motorway. The bus connecting the airport and the city centre is called Stagecoach. The quickest route by bus to and from the city centre bus station is to take the 56 (56A 56B), which operate 6 days a week (Limited route on Sundays and Bank Holidays). The journey time is approximately 25 minutes. The airport’s only authorised taxi company, Apple Central Taxis, operates from the taxi stand outside the Arrivals building.
