September is the hottest month, but the best time to visit might be early summer (around June), when the weather is already very pleasant and hotels not at their most expensive.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is the closest - 24 miles away. It offers domestic and international flights. McClellan-Palomar Airport (CLD ) is 36 miles away and has domestic flights. Lastly, Long Beach Airport (LGB / KLGB) is 44 miles away and offers domestic flights. John Wayne Airport is about half an hour drive from Dana Point. Most visitors hire a car or take the Orange County Line bus and Metrolink Trains.
