This recognizable arch bridge was one of the 101 bridges designed by Conde McCullough. The City

Newport has been a popular Pacific Coast resort town for over a century. Its first resort area, Nye Beach, dates back to 1866, the year the city was founded. Today it is still home to lodging, shops and resorts. Nye Beach, like all of Newport's districts, has something that makes it special. For instance, although Bayfront is also home to several shops and restaurants, it is also a working fishing port. Fishermen launching from the port at Yaquina Bay bring in all kinds of catches year-round, including Dungeness crab, Albacore tuna, shrimp, halibut, and Pacific whiting fish. It is often referred to as the "Dungeness Crab Capital of the World." The downtown or "deco" district is known for its art deco buildings, and, while South Beach is also a popular fishing area, it is best known as the location of the Oregon Coast Aquarium, which is consistently named in the top ten aquariums in the country. Newport typically experiences mild, wet weather, with highs barely exceeding 65ºF in the summer. This combined with its other popular attractions creates a welcoming atmosphere that envelopes this West Coast town.
